Capitolo 2 “Noi siamo l’argilla”

“We are the Clay,
and Thou our potter;
And all of us are the work of Thy hand.”

When you are going through a marriage crisis it is so easy to focus on what your wife is doing to you. However, as long as you do this you will struggle and never come to victory. You will learn in an upcoming chapter, “Weapons of our Warfare,” that your wife is not the enemy.

Quando stai attraversando una crisi matrimoniale è così facile concentrarsi su ciò che tua moglie ti sta facendo. Tuttavia, finché fai questo, lotterai e non arriverai mai alla vittoria. Imparerai in un prossimo capitolo, " Le armi della nostra guerra", che tua moglie non è il nemico.

Let us learn, in this chapter, that God many times is not changing our wives because God is using the things our wives are doing as the potter’s wheel and His hands to mold us more into His image. However, if we complain because we would rather He use something or someone else, not our wives, not finances, and not our marriages as His wheel, we will wander in the desert land for years!

Impariamo, in questo capitolo, che Dio molte volte non sta cambiando le nostre mogli perché Dio sta usando le cose che le nostre mogli stanno facendo come la ruota del vasaio e le Sue mani per modellarci di più a Sua immagine. Tuttavia, se ci lamentiamo perché preferiremmo che usasse qualcosa o qualcun altro, non le nostre mogli, non le finanze, e non i nostri matrimoni come la Sua ruota, vagheremo nella terra deserta per anni!

Quarrel with his Maker? “ ‘Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker’ – An earthenware vessel among the vessels of earth! Will the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you doing?’ Or the thing you are making say, ‘He has no hands’?” Isa. 45:9. Let God be God. Instead of complaining about “how” or “whom” He uses to irritate us into finally seeking Him to change us – praise Him for His faithfulness! He is determined to bring you forth as a handsome vessel ready for His use.

Contestare il suo creatore? “«Guai a colui che contesta il suo Creatore, egli, rottame fra i rottami di vasi di terra! L’argilla dirà forse a colui che la forma: “Che fai?” L’opera tua potrà forse dire: “Egli non ha mani”?” Isaia 45:9. Lascia che Dio sia Dio. Invece di lamentarsi di "come" o "chi" Egli usa per irritarci nel cercare finalmente Lui di cambiarci – lodatelo per la Sua fedeltà! Egli è determinato a farvi emergere come un bel vaso pronto per il Suo uso.

But you don’t understand. Many men tell us, as we try to encourage them, that we “just don’t understand!” In many ways we do understand, yet they are right that no one except Jesus really understands. “Shall the potter be considered as equal with the clay, that what is made should say to its maker, ‘He has no understanding’?” Isa. 29:16. Talk to Him about your situation and allow Him to give you peace. He knows what’s best for you, so work with Him.

Ma tu non capisci. Molti uomini ci dicono, mentre cerchiamo di incoraggiarli, che “proprio non capiamo!" In molti modi comprendiamo, ma hanno ragione che nessuno, tranne Gesù, capisce veramente. “Il vasaio sarà forse considerato al pari dell’argilla al punto che il vaso dica del vasaio: «Non ci capisce nulla»?” Isaia 29:16. Parla con Lui della tua situazione e permettigli di darti la pace. Egli sa cosa è meglio per voi, quindi lavorate con Lui.

You are in His hand. “Behold, like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand.” Jer. 18:6. Isn’t it comforting to know that you are in God’s Hand? Though your wife may tell you that she doesn’t care for you anymore, or treat you as if she doesn’t, your Lord does. Who else do you need? The truth is that your wife does care. She is hurt and deceived, but she does care for you down beneath those hurts.

Siete nella Sua mano. “«Ecco, quel che l’argilla è in mano al vasaio, voi lo siete in mano mia!»” Geremia 18:6. Non è confortante sapere che sei nelle mani di Dio? Anche se vostra moglie vi dirà che non le importa più di voi, o ti tratterà come se non fosse così, il tuo Signore lo farà. Di chi altro hai bisogno? La verità è che a tua moglie importa. È ferita e ingannata, ma si prende cura di te sotto quelle ferite.

God’s Prescription

Prescrizione di Dio

God has a prescription for healing a nation or a family. He says “If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2Chr. 7:14.

Dio ha una prescrizione per guarire una nazione o una famiglia. Egli dice: “se il mio popolo, sul quale è invocato il mio nome, si umilia, prega, cerca la mia faccia e si converte dalle sue vie malvagie, io lo esaudirò dal cielo, perdonerò i suoi peccati e guarirò il suo paese”. 2 Cronache 7:14.

God told us that if we humble ourselves, pray, seek His face (not His hand) AND turn from our wicked ways, THEN HE WILL hear, forgive and heal us. Instead, we “walk in the counsel of the wicked” (Ps. 1:1) and “trust in mankind” (Jer. 17:5), so now we suffer the consequences – superficial healing! “The brokenness of His people is healed superficially.” Jer. 8:11. “And they have healed the brokenness of My people superficially, saying, ‘Peace, peace,’ but there is no peace.” Jer. 6:14.

Dio ci ha detto che se ci umiliamo, preghiamo, cerchiamo la Sua faccia (non la Sua mano) E ci voltiamo dalle nostre vie malvagie, ALLORA Egli ci ASCOLTERÀ, ci perdonerà e ci guarirà. Invece noi “camminiamo secondo il consiglio degli empi” (Salmi 1:1) e “confidiamo nell’uomo” (Geremia 17:5), quindi ora ne subiamo le conseguenze – la guarigione superficiale! “Essi curano alla leggera la piaga del mio popolo”. Geremia 8:11. “Essi curano alla leggera la piaga del mio popolo; dicono: “Pace, pace”, mentre pace non c’è.” Geremia 6:14. 

Instead we are to die to self. “…and He died for all that they who live should no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.” 2Cor. 5:15.

Invece dobbiamo morire a noi stessi. “e che egli morì per tutti, affinché quelli che vivono non vivano più per se stessi, ma per colui che è morto e risuscitato per loro”. 2 Corinzi 5:15.

Only the Humble

Solo gli umili

Humble yourself. Self-willed, haughty people understand the Word without the Spirit, but to know the mind of God we need humility!

Umiliati. Le persone presuntuose e altezzose comprendono la Parola senza lo Spirito, ma per conoscere la mente di Dio abbiamo bisogno di umiltà!

Humility will be tested. “…He might humble you, testing you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.” Deut. 8:2.

L'umiltà sarà messa alla prova. “... per umiliarti e metterti alla prova, per sapere quello che avevi nel cuore e se tu avresti osservato o no i suoi comandamenti”. Deuteronomio 8:2.

Humility will save you. “When you are cast down, you will speak with confidence and the humble person He will save.” Job 22:29.

L'umiltà ti salverà. “Se viene l’umiliazione, tu pregherai per essere rialzato: Dio soccorre chi ha gli occhi a terra”. Giobbe 22:29.

Humility will strengthen your heart. “O Lord, Thou hast heard the desire of the humble; Thou wilt strengthen their heart, Thou wilt incline Thine ear.” Ps. 10:17.

L'umiltà rafforzerà il tuo cuore. “O Signore, tu esaudisci il desiderio degli umili; tu fortifichi il cuor loro, porgi il tuo orecchio” Salmi 10:17.

Only the humble will be exalted. “He has brought down rulers from their thrones, and has exalted those who were humble.” Luke 1:52.

Solo gli umili saranno esaltati. “Ha detronizzato i potenti e ha innalzato gli umili” Luca 1:52.

Only the humble will be given the grace that they need. “But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, ‘GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.’ Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.” Jas. 4:6, 10.

Solo agli umili sarà data la grazia di cui hanno bisogno. “Anzi, egli ci accorda una grazia maggiore; perciò la Scrittura dice: «DIO RESISTE AI SUPERBI E DÀ GRAZIA AGLI UMILI». Umiliatevi davanti al Signore, ed egli v’innalzerà”. Giacomo 4:6, 10. 

Humility is rooted in the spirit. “To sum up, let all be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit.” 1Pet. 3:8. Your false humility will be manifested in a self-righteous attitude. It will surface in anger and bitterness toward your wife and others.

L'umiltà è radicata nello spirito. “Infine, siate tutti concordi, compassionevoli, pieni di amore fraterno, misericordiosi e umili”. 1 Pietro 3:8. La tua falsa umiltà si manifesterà in un atteggiamento ipocrita. Affiorerà con rabbia e amarezza verso tua moglie e gli altri.

Spiritual arrogance. Over half of those who come to our ministry for help to restore their marriages exhibit spiritual arrogance or self-righteousness. This is what we refer to as a Pharisee spirit. Men, this is so dangerous. It WILL prevent God from moving your marriage toward restoration and it is what is really driving your wife away.

L'arroganza spirituale. Più della metà di coloro che vengono al nostro ministero per aiutarci a restaurare il loro matrimonio mostrano arroganza spirituale o rettitudine. Questo è ciò che chiamiamo spirito fariseo. Uomini, questo è molto pericoloso. IMPEDIRÀ a Dio di spostare il tuo matrimonio verso la restaurazione ed è ciò che sta davvero allontanando tua moglie.

God showed us, in His Word, that Jesus was only harsh, critical, and opposed to one set of individuals – the Pharisees! There are so many Christians who pretend to be spiritual on the outside but are filthy on the inside. There are so many Christians who look at their wives’ sins yet neglect to look at the logs in their own eyes. Is this you? Do you look at what your wife has done or is doing and neglect to see your anger, bitterness, harshness and arrogance?

Dio ci ha mostrato, nella Sua Parola, che Gesù era solo duro, critico e contrario a una serie di individui – i Farisei! Ci sono così tanti cristiani che fingono di essere spirituali all'esterno, ma sono sporchi all'interno. Ci sono così tanti cristiani che guardano i peccati delle loro mogli ma trascurano di guardare i tronchi nei loro occhi. Guardate quello che tua moglie ha fatto o sta facendo e trascurate di vedere la tua rabbia, amarezza, durezza e arroganza?

Others may look at you now as the “poor victim” who has been walked out on and cheated on. Do they see you as the one desperately trying to hold your marriage together? Are you seen as the one waiting, with open arms, to forgive your wife, “the sinner,” “the harlot,” when she comes to her senses by repenting and coming back home from the far country! Scribe, Pharisee, “white-washed tomb”!!

Altri possono guardarti ora come la "povera vittima" che è stata abbandonata e tradita. Ti vedono come colui che cerca disperatamente di tenere insieme il tuo matrimonio? Sei visto come colui che aspetta, a braccia aperte, di perdonare tua moglie, "la peccatrice", "la prostituta", quando torna in sé pentita e torna a casa dal paese lontano! Scriba, fariseo, “tomba imbiancata”!!

If you can identify with this sinful and prideful mindset, if this is you, I would beg you to get on your face before God and ask Him to cleanse you of this attitude that will not only inhibit restoration, but will also put you in opposition to a sincere and intimate relationship with God.

Se riesci a identificarti con questa mentalità peccaminosa e orgogliosa, se sei tu, ti pregherei di mettere la tua faccia davanti a Dio e di chiedergli di purificarti da questo atteggiamento che non solo inibirà la restaurazione, ma ti metterà anche in opposizione a una relazione sincera e intima con Dio.

Pray! Begin by praying Psalm 51:2-4. “Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against Thee, Thee only, I have sinned, and done what is evil in Thy sight, so that Thou art justified when Thou dost speak, and blameless when Thou dost judge.” There is much more on praying in the last two chapters of this book.

Prega! Inizia pregando il Salmi 51:2-4. “Lavami da tutte le mie iniquità e purificami dal mio peccato;  poiché riconosco le mie colpe, il mio peccato è sempre davanti a me.  Ho peccato contro te, contro te solo, ho fatto ciò che è male agli occhi tuoi. Perciò sei giusto quando parli e irreprensibile quando giudichi.” C'è molto di più sulla preghiera negli ultimi due capitoli di questo libro.

Seek My face. “If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray, and seek My face…” 2Chr. 7:13. “Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face continually.” 1Chr. 16:11. “…seek My face; in their affliction they will earnestly seek Me.” Hosea 5:15.

Cerca la mia faccia. “Se il mio popolo, sul quale è invocato il mio nome, si umilia, prega, cerca la mia faccia...” 2 Cronache 7:14. “Cercate il Signore e la sua forza, cercate sempre il suo volto!” 1 Cronache 16:11. “... cerchino la mia faccia; quando saranno nell’angoscia, ricorreranno a me”. Osea 5:15.

They were radiant. “They looked to Him and were radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed.” Ps. 34:5. Seek His face! So many seek His hand (what He can do for “me”). But those who seek the face of God will inherit all things!

Erano radiose. “Quelli che lo guardano sono illuminati, nei loro volti non c’è delusione”. Salmi 34:5. Cercate il Suo volto! Tanti cercano la Sua mano (quello che Lui può fare per “me”). Ma coloro che cercano il volto di Dio erediteranno tutte le cose!

Turn from your wicked ways. “If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways…” 2Chr. 7:13. Scriptures are not only for the head; they are for the heart and the will. To get the real impact of Scripture, we must surrender our lives and our wills to the leading of the Spirit. We must be willing to be made over. We must yield to Him.

Allontanati dalle tue vie malvagie. “Se il mio popolo, sul quale è invocato il mio nome, si umilia, prega, cerca la mia faccia e si converte dalle sue vie malvagie...” 2 Cronache 7:14. Le Scritture non sono solo per il capo; sono per il cuore e la volontà. Per ottenere il vero impatto della Scrittura, dobbiamo abbandonare la nostra vita e la nostra volontà alla guida dello Spirito. Dobbiamo essere disposti a farci convincere. Dobbiamo arrenderci a Lui.

To obey is better than sacrifice. “Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and insubordination is as iniquity and idolatry.” 1Sam. 15:22. Do you know the right thing to do, yet you do not do it? Obey Him! “Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do, and does not do it, to him it is sin.” Jas. 4:17.

Ubbidire è meglio del sacrificio. “No, l’ubbidire è meglio del sacrificio, dare ascolto vale più che il grasso dei montoni; infatti la ribellione è come il peccato della divinazione, e l’ostinatezza è come l’adorazione degli idoli e degli dèi domestici”. 1 Samuele 15:22-23. Conosci la cosa giusta da fare, ma non la fai? Ubbiditegli! “Chi dunque sa fare il bene e non lo fa, commette peccato”. Giacomo 4:17.

Walk in the Spirit

 “Camminare secondo lo Spirito!”

Walk in the Spirit. Being filled with the Holy Spirit will enable you to walk in the Spirit, not in sin or fleshly desires. Ask God to FILL you with His Holy Spirit right now! “And I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.” Ezek. 36:27. “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.” Gal. 5:16.

Camminate nello Spirito. Essere pieni di Spirito Santo ti permetterà di camminare nello Spirito, non nel peccato o nei desideri carnali. Chiedi a Dio di RIEMPIRTI con il Suo Santo Spirito in questo momento! “Metterò dentro di voi il mio Spirito e farò in modo che camminiate secondo le mie leggi, e osserviate e mettiate in pratica le mie prescrizioni”. Ezechiele 36:27. “Io dico: camminate secondo lo Spirito e non adempirete affatto i desideri della carne”. Galati 5:16.

Pray. “If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray…” 2Chr. 7:13-16.

Prego. “Se il mio popolo, sul quale è invocato il mio nome, si umilia, prega...”. 2 Cronache 7:14-16.

We can always trust God to bring about everything for our good if “…we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Rom. 8:28.

Possiamo sempre confidare che Dio realizzi tutto per il nostro bene se “Or sappiamo che tutte le cose cooperano al bene di quelli che amano Dio, i quali sono chiamati secondo il suo disegno”. Romani 8:28.

What “Condition” Needs to Be Met to Be Heard? 

Quale "condizione" deve essere soddisfatta per essere ascoltata?

Conform your desires to His will. Jesus’ promise is based on this condition: “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you.” John 15:7. When your heart rests in Jesus alone and your will is centered in His will, you are truly making Him Lord. And to know His will is to know His Word. It is His will that your marriage be healed. He hates divorce and we are to be reconciled; however, He has conditions.

Conforma i tuoi desideri alla Sua volontà. La promessa di Gesù si basa su questa condizione: “Se dimorate in me e le mie parole dimorano in voi, domandate quello che volete e vi sarà fatto”. Giovanni 15:7. Quando il tuo cuore riposa in Gesù solo e la tua volontà è centrata nella Sua volontà, lo stai veramente rendendo Signore. E conoscere la Sua volontà è conoscere la Sua Parola. È Sua volontà che il tuo matrimonio sia guarito. Egli odia il divorzio e noi dobbiamo riconciliarci; tuttavia, Egli ha delle condizioni.

The condition for every blessing. Each promise given by God has a condition for that blessing. Many will claim a portion of the Scripture, yet omit or overlook the conditions.

La condizione per ogni benedizione. Ogni promessa data da Dio ha una condizione per quella benedizione. Molti rivendicheranno una parte della Scrittura, ma ometteranno o trascureranno le condizioni.

Condition: “Believe on the Lord Jesus…

Promise: and you shall be saved.” Acts 16:31.

Condizione: “Credi nel Signore Gesù…

Prometti: e sarai salvato”. Atti 16:31.

Condition: “Delight yourself in the Lord…

Promise: and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Ps. 37:4.

Condizione: “Trova la tua gioia nel Signore...

Promessa: ed egli appagherà i desideri del tuo cuore”. Salmi 37:4.

Condition: “Train up a child in the way he should go…

Promise: Even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Prov. 22:6.

Condizione: "Insegna al ragazzo la condotta che deve tenere...

Promessa: anche quando sarà vecchio non se ne allontanerà”. Proverbi 22:6.

Condition: First, “to those who love God.” And secondly, “to those who are called according to His purpose.”

Promise: “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good….” Rom. 8:28.

Condizione: In primo luogo, "di quelli che amano Dio” E in secondo luogo,"i quali sono chiamati secondo il suo disegno".

Promessa: “Or sappiamo che tutte le cose cooperano al bene...” Romani 8:28.

 

Personal commitment: to allow God to change me. “Based on what I have learned from God’s Word, I commit to allowing God to change me through whatever means or through whomever He chooses. I will focus my attention on changing myself rather than my wife or others around me.”

Compromesso personale: permettere a Dio di cambiarmi. “Sulla base di ciò che ho imparato dalla Parola di Dio, mi impegno a permettere a Dio di cambiarmi con qualsiasi mezzo o attraverso chiunque Egli scelga. Concentrerò la mia attenzione sul cambiare me stesso piuttosto che mia moglie o gli altri intorno a me".
