Dealing With Confrontations

 Words of Encouragement

Dear Brothers,

There is a time for difficult conversations, however I don’t want you to get into confrontations. I heard it preached that confrontations are loaded with feelings of self righteousness and pride. None of these have a place in our hearts because we have humility and love!

The preacher I listened to said that the only record of confrontation in the Bible that he was aware of is when Nathan confronted David about his murder and adultery. This is because he was sent by the Lord!  I have failed terribly in this way my brother and I know you may have failed too. Let us commit to not having confrontations with anyone.

I want you to commit to not failing anymore even if your wife and others  wrong you, remain in the zone where you are able to have conversations with humility, your conversations should be respectful and well-timed, if not walk away. Implement practical actions  like agreeing on a time to talk and having an exit plan when things heat up. Get into a community of saints who will help you navigate these times.

You don’t have to win because of feelings of self-righteousness and pride. The Lord will sort out where you have been wronged, where you have not been heard and everything else. In this way you are not a hindrance to him or his Spirit working. When you are weak He is strong and all things are working together for your good because you are submitted to Him.

2 Samuel: 12, 1 - 12

So the LORD sent Nathan to David. When Nathan arrived he said, “There were two men in the same city, one rich, one poor. The rich man had a lot of sheep and cattle, but the poor man had nothing—just one small ewe lamb that he had bought. He raised that lamb, and it grew up with him and his children. It would eat from his food and drink from his cup—even sleep in his arms! It was like a daughter to him.

“Now, a visitor came to the rich man. The rich man thought it would be a pity to take one of his own sheep or cattle to prepare a meal for the traveller. So he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared her for the traveller.”

David burned with anger against the man. “I solemnly swear, as the Lord lives,” he said to Nathan, “the man who did this certainly deserves to die! And he must pay back four times the price of the lamb because he did this and had no pity.”

 “You are the man!” Nathan told David. “This is what the Lord God of Israel says: I anointed you king over Israel and rescued you from Saul.  I gave you your master Saul’s house and his wives. I gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if this weren’t enough, I would have given you even more. Why did you despise my word by doing what I considered evil? You had Uriah the Hittite killed in battle. You took his wife as your wife. You used the Ammonites to kill him. So warfare will never leave your house because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.

“This is what the Lord says: I will stir up trouble against you within your own household, and before your own eyes I will take your wives and give them to someone close to you. He will go to bed with your wives in broad daylight.  You did this secretly, but I will make this happen in broad daylight in front of all Israel.”

Proverbs 20:3
It is honorable for a man to resolve a dispute, but any fool will quarrel.

Proverbs 25:8
Do not go out to argue in haste. Otherwise, what will you do in the end when your opponent puts you to shame?
